Flash by name, but certainly not by nature, Flash is a big lazy bones with a glorious long nose and big radar ears. When he is not roaching on the couch, he loves to be nosy and check out what you are doing (he has a serious case of FOMO) . Flash loves his people, and once he bonds with you, then he loves nothing more than being near you and seeing what you are up to. Once he knows where you are, he will choose the best spot to curl up and have a snooze.
Flash can get quite nervous being in a new home. It takes him a few days to settle and feel comfortable with his new people. He is particularly fearful of people approaching him when he is lying down. This does improve as he gains your trust, but new parents must respect his space. Flash is very affectionate on his own terms though. He is known for coming up and plonking his head into your chest for a good body scratch. He is such a sweet boy, and just needs a bit of patience and time.
Flash gets very excited for his walks. It doesn't take too much to wear him out - two shorter walks a day will do it. He can sometimes get a bit stressed and be a bit reactive to some dogs out and about, especially if they lunge at him. His foster carers are onto this, and have found that using some cheese can keep him happy to continue on his walks. He has been on a number of greyhound walks, and has been fine. Flash's carers are working on desensitizing him and slowly introducing him to other breeds. He walks beautifully on the lead and gets excited whenever a lovely human passes who wants to say hello.
Flash absolutely adores a car trip. He loves to stick his head out of the window for a bit and then eventually will have a good lie down or even a snooze.
He loves nothing more than hanging out with his people and would prefer that someone is home more often than not. Flash will thrive in a home that is patient and understanding of his needs.

Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
Your home will require an initial “dog safe” Homecheck by Gumtree Greys. Payment of $350 for the placement is required at the time of the dog going into your home for the two week trial period. If you decide during the trial not to proceed with adopting the greyhound, your adoption fee will be reimbursed.
Outside of the trial period, the adoption fee will be relinquished to Gumtree Greys.
