Hi, my name is Jessie.I am a beautiful 7 year old black and white Greyhound. I am a very loving and sweet girl.

I am very people orientated and love nothing more than snuggling up to my humans and getting cuddles as much as possible. I can become very attached and will get jealous if I must share the attention with my foster Greyhound siblings. I am working on my manners in terms of sharing the love between me and my siblings with my humans.

I play a little with my siblings but haven’t fully got the hang of how that works. I do know how to play fetch with my humans though and love a good tennis ball. I’m not big on running and I prefer to watch my siblings run and play.

I love my food so much that I can be food protective when eating near other animals. I will need to be fed separately at mealtime. I am also learning on not sneaking food off my human’s plates when they eat.

I am toilet trained and will wait at the back door when I need to do my business. I will hold on for as long as possible if I can’t go outside.

I am very good on the lead and prefer to walk at a leisurely pace. Unlike most greyhounds, I’m not very energetic and don’t like to walk too long. I will stop for cuddles on my walks when I am ready to go home. Other animals don’t seem to interest me on walks, and I will continue right past them.

As I am so loving, I can get separation anxiety if I am separated from my humans for too long. I have been known to cry even if my humans are home but are in a room, I can’t access or see them in. I also don’t cope well when left outside. I will need to be an inside dog with a low to medium energy level person, couple or family who are willing to give me lots of love and attention.

I will need to go to a home with no pocket pets, small animals or cats. I’d be willing to share the attention with a medium to large doggy sibling/s.

Adoption process

The first step is to look at the profiles of our available dogs and find one or more that you might want to adopt.

Fill out our online Adoption Questionnaire: You only need to fill it out once and you can list the names of multiple dogs that you would like to inquire about. If there is a phone number listed in the dog’s profile then you can also phone for more information.

Arrange to meet the pet, usually near the foster carer’s home.

If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you’ve selected. (Sometimes we’ll do the property check before you meet the pet).

If both sides agree, then you can adopt your new family member! When you pick up your new pet, you will be asked to:
- sign our Adoption Agreement,
- sign a NSW Companion Animals Register-Change of Owner/Details form, and
- pay the Adoption Fee by bank cheque or direct debit to Newcastle Permanent BSB: 650 000 Account: 503087208. Sorry, no personal cheques. *If paying by direct debit include the name of the pet and your surname as a comment. Make the transfer at least 24 hours before picking up your pet so we can confirm receipt. Also, please print a receipt and bring it with you.

No cash payments will be taken at any point. If you have to pay by cash please visit a local Newcastle permanent branch and directly deposit into our account. Please bring the receipt when you come to pick up your new family member. (No Receipt No Handover)

This is just a guide. Special arrangements and variations to the procedure are made when you live outside the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie area. Most of our pets are available for interstate adoption. Please contact us about this procedure.
